Devils Seed Pods, or Bat But Pods are a Eurasian native and an American invasive. The pods are used in witchcraft and magic to ward off evil, due to their bedeviled appearance: either looking like a bat in flight, a demonic face, or the head and horns of a He Goat. These spiny and hard pods are carried in pocket pieces or added to apotropaic jewelry, or knotted in witches ladders and hung around the home to catch evil spirits or send them away. 
These pods are about 1-2" in size and come in a pack of one.
