Lodestones In History & Magic
Lodestones are miraculous iron-rich rocks that are revered for their power in folk magic & spellwork
to draw and attract things to you. Often times used in spells and workings like Attraction Spells, Money-Drawing Spells, Come To Me Love Spells, and luck-drawing spells, the lodestone's innate power is to attract what we desire. Created by divine fire: the stones are magnetically charged when lightning strikes them.
In ancient times, lodestones were revered as powerful and wonderful amulets to attract money, luck, and power. It is said, the first lodestone was discovered by a shepherd named Magnese. Manganese was tending his flock in Magnesia, and while shepherding his flock, the nails from his shoes and tip of his crook became stuck to a rock. He became intrigued and dug into the ground, discovering the first magnetite, also known as a lodestone.
Pliny the Elder relates to lodestones as having innate power and animation, saying, “What is more impassive than the stiffness of stone? And yet we see that she has endowed the magnet with senses and hands. What is more recalcitrant than the hardness of iron? We see that she has bestowed on it feet and instincts. For iron is attracted by the magnet, and the substance that vanquishes all other things rushes into a kind of vacuum and, as it approaches the magnet, it leaps towards it and is held by it and clasped in its embrace.”
Used in ancient China for navigation and luck, in the Middle East to protect from evil spirits, in Africa to empower spirits and deities, Lodestones have been used in magic and science since time immemorial.
Beware of Fakes
Somewhat rare, many people counterfeit rocks and sell them as lodestones. One very popular company has even sold me “lodestones”, only to find out they were chunks of black asphalt. My lodestones are 100% genuine and hand-harvetsed.
How To Work With Lodestones
But How do we work with lodestones? Large chunks are often kept around on altars for money, luck, or love. They can be kept inside bowls or dishes set on top of coins and
anointed in luck, love, or money-drawing oils such as Come To Me Love Oil, Southern True-Love Oil, Attraction Oil, or Money-Drawing Oil. The stones can be anointed as well in Perfumes & Cologne Waters, smoked with Incense, and so on. These formulas feed them with specific purposes, along with Lodestone Grit, also called lodetone food. Lodestone grit is iron filings that are sprinkled over a lodestone to strengthen its magnetic power, and can help identify whether the lodestone is a He Stone or a She Stone.
Identifying Male & Female Lodestones

Lodestones can carry specific virtues and qualities by their shape which might tell us whether they are masculine or feminine. This is exceptionally useful in matters of love, when working to draw two people together. To identify a masculine stone, or sometimes called a He-Stone, we look to whether the stone is oblong or pyramidal in shape. Feminine stones or She-stones are round, square, or concave.
Not all lodestones are attracted to each other, however, and care has to be implemented to make sure they pair well. To find a pair, on a tray or ceramic plate (ive had the best luck on my glasstop stove), sprinkle a bit of Lodestone Grit onto the lodestones, and place the two lodestones together, being sure to look for

subtleties of attraction and repulsion. If they don’t find a natural magnetism, they are not suitable for each other, but can be used for luck or money drawing.
You don’t have to only use a He Stone and She Stone together, however. Queer people can and should use lodestones that they identify with. If you’re femme, and looking for someone masculine, you would name the feminine lodestone as yourself, and the masculine lodestone as the partner you’re seeking. If you’re a gay man seeking another man, by all means, use two masculine lodestones.
Can Lodestones Be Reused?
It is often that with lodestones, you want to give them a task and keep them on the task. It's not common to see lodestones that are paired well to work for money, or a single lodestone that is usually used for money to bring in love. In my opinion its best to use new lodestones for the task. In some cases, if a worker has used a set of love lodestones in the past, and had great success with them, sometimes he or she will take some of the grit of that lodestone pair, and give it to the new pair, or touch the new pair to each of the lodestones, so that they draw upon some of their power.
A Spell To Draw a Lover To You With Lodestones & A Candle
On a Friday, anoint two paired Lodestones in some love-drawing oil, such as Come To Me Love,
Follow Me Boy/ Follow Me Girl Oil, or Southern-True Love Oil. Feed the lodestones a sprinkle of Lodestone Grit, and anoint a pink or red candle in the corresponding oil. On a plate, set the lodestones apart from each other, with a paper under each, with your name and the person you wish, written in Doves Blood Ink, seven times. Light the candle and pray over the working Song of Solomon Chapter 1:
1 The song of songs, which is Solomon's. Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth: for thy love is better than wine. Because of the savour of thy good ointments thy name is as ointment poured forth, therefore do the virgins love thee. Draw me, we will run after thee: the king hath brought me into his chambers: we will be glad and rejoice in thee, we will remember thy love more than wine: the upright love thee. I am black, but comely, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, as the tents of Kedar, as the curtains of Solomon. Look not upon me, because I am black, because the sun hath looked upon me: my mother's children were angry with me; they made me the keeper of the vineyards; but mine own vineyard have I not kept. Tell me, O thou whom my soul loveth, where thou feedest, where thou makest thy flock to rest at noon: for why should I be as one that turneth aside by the flocks of thy companions? If thou know not, O thou fairest among women, go thy way forth by the footsteps of the flock, and feed thy kids beside the shepherds' tents. I have compared thee, O my love, to a company of horses in Pharaoh's chariots. Thy cheeks are comely with rows of jewels, thy neck with chains of gold. We will make thee borders of gold with studs of silver. While the king sitteth at his table, my spikenard sendeth forth the smell thereof. A bundle of myrrh is my well-beloved unto me; he shall lie all night betwixt my breasts. My beloved is unto me as a cluster of camphire in the vineyards of Engedi. Behold, thou art fair, my love; behold, thou art fair; thou hast doves' eyes. Behold, thou art fair, my beloved, yea, pleasant: also our bed is green. The beams of our house are cedar, and our rafters of fir.
Extinshuish the candle. The next Friday, sprinkle more Lodestone Grit on the stones and move them closer together. Light the candle and repeat the prayer. Do this for five more Fridays (making a total of seven), each time moving the stones closer and closer together until they are fully paired. Allow the candle to burn down fully, and then put these lodestones with the papers in a silken bag or non-magnetic box. Feed the lodestones, Follow Me Boy Oil/ Follow Me Girl Oil, and more Lodestone Grit, on the full moon, to keep the person with you.
A Money Bowl Spell
Find a non-magnetic bowl, plate, or vessel to store your working in. It does not have to be covered, and you can find whatever is pleasing to your aesthetic. Program the Fourth Pentacle of Jupiter with Money Drawing Self-Igniting Incense Powder, and place it into the bottom of the vessel. Place on top of this lucky coins, dollars, and pieces of pyrite. You can also add in dried corns, grains, and legumes, such as dried corn, sunflower seeds, white rice, and so on. Put into this a stick of cinnamon and a whole nutmeg.
Then, take the Lodestone and anoint it with Attraction Oil and Money-Drawing Oil. Feed the lodestone with Lodestone Grit, and place into the bowl. Light a Green candle in front of it and tell it what you need, conjuring the Lodestone and saying
“Spirit of this Lodestone, I conjure and compel you to aid me in drawing more money for me: Be good for me and work for me well and I will feed you more oil and Lodestone Grit, more grains, whisky and colognes”.
Keep this working going, and periodically add more oils to the working.
If you are feeling compelled to protect you money, or need to hold on to money better, use a Gator Paw, putting it with the lodestone in the working. Be careful not to overfeed the working once this is done, as alligator materia magica can be overfed.
