Rota Fortunae: A charm to conduct good luck under the geomantic figure of Fortuna Minor,

The wheel of favor spins- cyclical, a reminder that what goes up must come down. The geomantic figure of Fortuna Minor contains these qualities as well. As my teacher Doctor Alexander Cummins has spoken about this sign: a figure of coasting and the qualities of hard and fast luck- finding 50$ on the street to come back to a 100$ parking ticket.

In the houses where it falls (depending on the question), it can denote the less-favorable fortune, quick fixes, and dumb-luck, as opposed to its dignified solar counterpart of Fortuna Major- the hard-won success.

Fortuna Minor, despite the qualities of its less-benefic fortune, can (when in certain places in a chart, or as a form of remediation and magic) can contain and expand the qualities of luck as quantum: collecting and drawing luck to you. The celebrity and goof favor of the night-sun of Sol Invictus, the sun which conducts and demonstrates, commands, and orders these virtues of good luck can be found within the powers of Fortuna Minor. Indeed, it rules movie theatres and cinemas: not the act of performance, but the shallow fame of celebrity and parasocial relationships. It is reputation amongst acquaintances, work- collegues, and favor for those who dont really know you. It can be the coasting of work while getting paid decently to do very little. The golden glow of the cinema lights at the night theatre. In many ways, I compare this figure to the Wheel of Fortuna card in the classic RWS tarot.

The card of the Wheel is- at least in the Rider Waite Smith version- a card that rotates the wheel of fate. It is the Rota Fortunae, or the Wheel which Fortuna spins. A classic motif, the wheel usually depicts characters in their zenith and nadir, as well as their ascent and descent, climbing and rotating around Fortuna. This card is no different- swapping out Fortuna as the Sun, God himself, announced with the Hebrew Tetragrammaton YHWH, the divine name of God. Climbing the wheel depicts Anubis-the rise from the underworld- and Typhon, the monstrous serpent, in his descent to Hell, after being defeated by Zeus, or God, we may surmise. At the apex of the wheel stands the hybridized beast the Sphynx- more references are made by Waite to Levi, and his androgyne present in Baphomet mysteries- the unification of duality, coming together to create balanced and successful unification. Balanced on each of the four corners of the card are the motifs of the four gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, as their motifs of the Ox the eagle, the lion, and the angel.

But how does all this help is us in developing better luck, magically? When Fortuna Minor shows up as something to be worked in a geomancy reading, or when the card The Wheel of Fortune falls in a tarot spread, I recommend clients to make a luck-drawing charm under the Auspices of Fortuna Minor & The Wheel:

For this the tarot card should be present- even if it is printed on a piece of paper, the point is the card should be shown. During the day and hour of the sun, mark onto the card in yellow, gold, or white ink glyph of Fortuna Minor.With a Luck- drawing oil (a simple one can be made by infusing citronella, lemon peel, palmarosa, lemon grass, and lemon verbena, with root of vetiver- I recommend adding a bit of laurel, prayed over for six Sundays, at noon, or in the second solar hour).

Annoint the card on each point of the gospels, appealing to them. A simple prayer can be

Four Gospels depicted at the Saint Nicholas Orthodox Cathedral, Tarpon Springs, Florida

adapted from the children's bedtime rhyming prayer:

Matthew, Mark, Luke and John,

Bless the bed that I lie on.

Four corners to my bed,

Four angels round my head;

One to watch and one to pray

And two to bear my soul away.

And instead:

Matthew, Mark, Luke and John,

Bless this charm that you are on.

Four corners to my bed,

Four angels round my head;

One to watch and one to pray

And two to bear bad luck away.

And once this is done you should suffumigate the card in a solar incense, and to it pray for success and luck drawn to you.

Place into the center of this a silver-colored coin, and dab it with a splash of vodka (or some other cheap clear liquor), or coffee. Placing into the center of the charm a pinch of lemongrass citronella, laurel, and/or other solar herbs- I recommend for fast luck adding a little cayenne, or coffee powder, The dirts of desires requested can also be added: the dirt of the right side of the cinema, the dirt of a bank, from the right side, the dirt from the center of a crossroad, and so on.

When this is completed, fold the paper charm towards you, then again, folding towards you, and twice more, towards you. Suffumigte it in solar herbs, while speaking what the charm should do. Keep this on your person, and feet the charm regularly with clear liquors and smokes of incense.
